A teacher in Zambia. There have been huge teacher shortages in Zambia, due to the AIDS pandemic. We hope that the country's debt relief will help to improve this situation, by allowing the government to fund more teaching posts for newly qualified teachers.

Teachers' Pack

In line with the UK government's agenda to promote 'Active Citizenship in Schools', Cecily's Fund has created a Teachers' Pack which offers learning resources and exercises for use in the classroom.

It covers the following themes: global citizenship; human rights; diversity; social injustice; values and perceptions; and interdependence. These are six of the eight key concepts for adding a global dimension to school learning, as defined by the English Curriculum.

Mass campaigns, like Make Poverty History, have made global learning more relevant and exciting for young people. Our resources reflect this trend and make the complex issues of poverty, human rights and HIV/AIDS accessible in an interactive and fun way.

To download a copy of our Teachers' Pack in full, click on Teachers' Pack or request a CD-ROM by emailing us.

Cecily's Fund hopes these learning resources will inspire teachers and pupils alike to get active for Cecily's Fund. We have therefore also created a Fundraising Guide, with all the tools a school needs to run a successful event.

It costs just £25 (or US$50) to send a Zambian orphaned child to primary school for a whole year. These children are very vulnerable, and many would risk missing out on an education without the support of Cecily's Fund.

We would love to hear from your school and be able to consider it one of our supporter schools. Please do let us know about any fundraising and send us a photo for our website. You really could make a huge difference to the lives of Zambian children orphaned by AIDS.
