Swiss School turns out in force for Cecily's Fund
This summer, 150 staff, students and parents from the International School, Lausanne, in Switzerland ran in the course à travers Pully to raise money for Cecily’s Fund. Many more came along to support and cheer them on. The school has supported Cecily's Fund for many years now and raised thousands of Swiss Francs from this run. They also added to their fundraising by having a school rock gig, featuring Michael Topp and his band.
Our thanks go to Alexis Ivett, his parents, John and Mary, and his friends Thomas Bradley and Cecilie Dybwad for their hard work in making the event so successful. Alexis writes of the run:
"The spirit was fantastic as ISL swelled the numbers taking part. We ran through the vineyards, with the lake and mountains as a dramatic backdrop. The course was a tough one, especially the hill from Paudex back into Pully. But we did it! And we maintained our commitment to the children of Kitwe whom we have supported for the last six years."
Pupil Fundraising
If you are a pupil who wants to help out and get involved, that's fantastic! Why not get together with a group of friends to organise a fundraising event?
Whether it is a cake sale, a rugby tournament or an art exhibition, our Fundraising Guide For Pupils will explain what you need to do step by step - from getting a team together and handling money, to giving fundraising ideas, and information on publicising and evaluating. Just follow our '9 Steps to Success'.
Remember to get as many people as possible at your school, including parents, involved. Tell your teacher about Cecily's Fund's Teachers' Pack - and let the Cecily's Fund office know about your plans.
Cecily's Fund wants to reward your efforts, so we have a Certificate Scheme. It doesn't matter how small your school is, you can still reach our Gold Award. We may be able to come and visit your school to give a talk, and we would also love to feature you on our website.
In addition, all hours spent as a volunteer fundraiser for Cecily's Fund can count towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award or other similar schemes.
It is amazing what a difference the money you raise can make to young people in Zambia. It costs just £25 to send an orphan to primary school for a whole year in Zambia, and £50 for a year of secondary school. However, without Cecily's Fund's support, many of these children would not be able to afford to go to school. With your help, we can make sure they do.
