Cokethorpe Junior School raises £4646.61 for Cecily's Fund!
Pupils and staff at Cokethorpe Junior School rose to the 10,000 mile challenge with enthusiasm one rainy day in February. 132 pupils took part in a sponsored walk, raising £4646.61!
The walk circled the impressive grounds of the school, taking in some of the 150 acres of parkland that the school is situated in. The rain and the mud didn’t dampen the spirits of even the youngest children, and 400 miles were added to our foot-o-meter!
In recognition of this achievement, Cecily’s Fund Manager, Caroline Horne, presented Cokethorpe School with a certificate in an assembly which took place in the magnificent chapel.
Cecily’s Fund would again like to thank the staff and pupils at Cokethorpe Junior School for all their hard work in making this walk such a success!

King Edward VI Aston School Fundraises with Style!
As part of their Charity Week, King Edward VI Aston School raised over £1220 for Cecily’s Fund. The money was raised through a diverse range of activities including a non-uniform day and the sales of Cecily’s Fund badges and wristbands.
When deciding how the School could help Cecily’s Fund, sixth-former Mark Smith took the lead and came up with the idea of a non-uniform day as a way of raising money for school uniforms for orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia.
This has been a fantastic achievement and everyone at Cecily’s Fund says a big thank you to the staff and pupils at King Edward VI Aston School for their continued support.

A hike around Lake Geneva!
On September 17th, 2007, Cynthia Gunn, a former teacher at the International School of Lausanne in Switzerland, set off on a momentous sponsored hike around Lake Geneva in aid of Cecily's Fund. Cynthia has suffered from osteoarthritis of the feet for several years and, following an unsuccessful operation was in considerable pain. However, after further operations at the orthopedic hospital in Lausanne, she made a full recovery and decided to celebrate by organising a sponsored walk. Cynthia became interested in Cecily's Fund after she attended a talk given by the Charity and says, "My walk around the lake is, in part, a thanksgiving for my own mobility, and also a dedication to the work of Cecily's Fund."
Inviting friends to join her for sections of the walk, Cynthia hiked an average of 6 miles a day, stopping to enjoy the breathtaking scenery that the second largest freshwater lake in Central Europe has to offer. Over the course of twenty-walking days, Cynthia covered a distance of 118 miles and raised £5000 for Cecily's Fund.
Cecily's Fund would like say a big thank you and well done to Cynthia!

Big Bike Ride Adventure!
John O'Groats to Land's End
It all went to plan, in so much as Jon Parsons finished with time to spare on day 9! In his words "The other bit of the story is that for quite a few days my sore toes/achilles/bottom were making me fall behind target. Luckily a combination of deep heat and deep freeze, taking a couple of paths of least resistance (e.g. the A30 for large bits of Devon, rather than the coast) and the discovery of caffeine energy gels got me home in good time" In the process he has also raised lots of money over £450 to date. Well done Jon on your inspirational achievements!
Diva Opera at Stonesfield
Cecily's Fund was delighted to host another mesmerising performance by Diva Opera in Stonesfield in June 2007. This time the opera was Mozart's Don Giovanni, and an enthusiastic audience of over 200 watched at close quarters as Don Juan was carried off in a cloud of dry ice to get his just reward. Over a splendid dinner Philippa and Basil Eastwood then told them about our activities and plans stressing the need for continuing support to meet our continuing commitments. The evening certainly raised a magnificent sum for us. We hope that it will also have won us new supporters for the future. All in all it was another very memorable and successful occasion.
