  • World AIDS Orphans Day - 7th May Do something on this day to celebrate the amazing courage and resilience of the tens of thousands of children all over the world who have lost their parents to AIDS. FEED THEIR MINDS, FUND THEIR FUTURES

This year we are inviting you to raise funds through FOOD to help educate Zambian orphans.

We anticipate a plethora of cake sales, teddy bears’ picnics, dinner parties and more. Schools could try sponsored skip-a-snack days or eating a Zambian orphan’s typical diet for a day and donating lunch money.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS

To receive is to give...

If you have a special occasion coming up -a significant birthday or anniversary, a wedding or a Christening, or even if you are about to change jobs - you could make the occasion really special by asking friends and family for donations to Cecily's Fund instead of gifts.

A supporter in Switzerland recently raised nearly £1,000 for Cecily's Fund on his 50th birthday - that's enough to train four peer health edcators and support each of them to run 6 months of life-saving HIV workshops for hundreds of school children.

You can arrange for donations in lieu of gifts in a variety of simple ways;

  • Set up an online sponsorship page. You can specify what kind of occasion it is and email friends and family directly to tell them your idea. Your friends' donations will come direct to Cecily's Fund and they can leave a message for you on the page.
  • Ask friends and family to buy you Cecily's Fund gift cards through this website, or by sending a cheque to the address below and a note to explain what it is for.
  • Throw a party and have a collection.

You may also like to consider indicating in your will that you would like donations to be made to Cecily's Fund in your memory.

Party plus...

Add an extra dimension to your birthday or anniversary party, and raise more funds for deprived orphans; make it fancy dress, have a theme - how about an African theme? - have a karaoke competition or include an auction or raffle (please contact us for advice on the laws covering raffles)

Auctions can be great fun as people compete with each other to win that must-have item. As part of a fundraising day for Cecily's Fund, a school once auctioned a date with the dishy PE teacher which attracted a lot of bids from other teachers!

Ask friends and local businesses to donate items, 'experiences' or services - an hour's gardening, a dinner party cooked in your own home, use of a second home for a week, a guitar lesson.... You could even ask the boss to offer a day off from work! Have a look at the party ideas on our Make Music Give Hope page.

Get Sponsored

Celebrate your special occasion by doing something unusual and being sponsored for it. Below are ideas for sponsored walks, runs etc. But if you're not sporty, you can ask people to sponsor you for almost anything, as long as it's a bit of a challenge and a bit different. Cecily's Fund Communications Officer, Sabita, raised £600 when she did a sponsored walk from Oxford to New Yatt to mark her departure from her last job to join Cecily's Fund! But some of the non-sporty things people have been sponsored for;

  • Piano practice - a music teacher has asked her pupils to get sponsored for each hour of practice towards their exams.
  • Watching telly - Cecily's Fund Fundraising Administrator, Julie, once got sponsored for watching Emerdale for 24 hours as part of an ITV telly-thon!
  • Hair - cutting it all off, shaving your head, waxing your legs (areyou brave enough, boys?).
  • Knitting - Kennington Overseas Aid organised a sponsored knit.
  • Sitting in a bath of baked beans!
  • Singing or dancing (this could be part of our Make Music Give Hope fundraising campaign)
  • Silence - can you go a whole day without saying a word?!
  • Losing weight - pound for pound, what you lose, orphans gain! But do diet responsibly and healthily. Get advice from your GP if you are not sure how.
    See below for some easy options for gathering sponsorship.

GET ACTVE...

Sponsored Activities
Sponsored walks, bike rides, runs, swims and climbs are fun, keep you fit and can raise lots of money.

You can set up your own personal Cecily's Fund fundraising webpage to gather sponsorship online from friends, family and colleagues. If you are fundraising in the USA, you can use www.firstgiving.com, a simple and efficient way to raise money online.

If you would like to use a traditional paper sponsorship form too, click here to download one. We also have some general tips on how to maximise your sponsorship - click here to see them.

Many companies have a matched giving scheme for employees, which can increase your sponsorship total considerably - check with your HR department if your employer runs one. If not ask them to contact us for advice on how to set one up.
