10th Anniversary

Events

2008 marks the 10th Anniversary of Cecily's Fund and to celebrate this achievement we have had an epic year of fundraising. Intrepid supporters rose to our challenge to cover 10,000 miles, the approximate distance of a route from Oxford to Lusaka, in sponsored walks, runs, climbs, swims and even hitchhike! Together they have covered well over 10,000 miles, and raised nearly £42,000 in the process. This will give us a great boost in continuing the vital work that we have been doing in Zambia for the last ten years.

Achievements

From small beginnings, we have steadily expanded over 10 years to be able to help more and more Zambian children orphaned by AIDS.

Here are some of the milestones that make us smile:

• Helped over 10,000 orphaned children to go to school
• Trained 240 orphaned school-leavers to become peer health educators and inform their peers about the risk of HIV infection
• Run weekly workshops for over 7,000 school children each year to raise their awareness about HIV/AIDS
• Provided over 700 uniforms, 2,500 pairs of shoes and 5,200 books and pens a year to school children
• Supported 33 orphans through teacher training college
• Supported orphans in 67 different state schools through primary and secondary education
• Fully funded Bwafwano community school since 2002
• We are the largest non-governmental direct provider of educational support in Zambia
• Our dedicated supporters have given thousands of orphans in Zambia something to smile about
